‪#‎DEMENTIA‬ is a term used for a decline in mental ability enough to interfere with everyday routine activities such as memory loss. Alzheimer’s is the most diagnosed type of dementia.

WHAT IS DEMENTIA?
Dementia is not a very specific disease. It’s a general term used to describes a range of symptoms associated with a decline in memory or other thinking skills severe enough to reduce a person’s ability to function daily. Alzheimer’s accounts for about 75% of these cases. Vascular dementia, which occurs after a stroke, is the next most type but there are many other conditions that can cause symptoms of dementia including thyroid disorders and deficiency of nutrients & vitamins.

MEMORY LOSS AND OTHER SYMPTOMS OF DEMENTIA
While symptoms of dementia vary drastically, clinically at least two of the following mental skills must be significantly impaired to be considered dementia:

Memory
Communication and language
Ability to focus and pay attention
Reasoning and judgment
Visual perception

Those with dementia may have problems with short-term memory, planning meals, remembering if bushed teeth and appointments.

Most types of dementia are progressive with symptoms starting out slowly and gradually get worse.
